Curiosity, mostly. This is the most international list I know, so I
figured some of you may have thoughts on this.
And maybe a little bit of mischievous (very very) pre planning. :-P
Probably triggered by a) my partner (Alex Fink, another conlanger
wheee kitty nose) being a different nationality (Canadian vs my
American) and b) recent thoughts again about planning some extended
world travel (I'd like to go backpacking across the world for a few
years in the nearish future). I don't self-conceive as particularly
"American", so the idea of nationality itself intrigues me somewhat.
Further complications that might arise: adoption (do the birth parents
count for lex sanguinis? do the adoptives?), surrogacy (what about a
male/male couple having a child - does the mother's nationality
count?), ambiguous parenthood (somewhere where polyandry is legal?),
etc...
... but at first pass at least, what could one do?
