I read a chapter of the Vulgate every day (circumstances permitting) and real
Classical Latin very rarely. I find the Vulgate much easier to read--the word
order, in particular, is much more uniform and seems closer to modern
European languages. This may be partly because a lot of the surviving Classical Latin
is very sophisticated literary material, either poetry or highly ornamented
prose; it may not represent the default basic form, assuming there was one.
