Sure. Lies come in three flavors: malicious, officious, and jocose.
The middle group are those told to benefit oneself or another, but
not to harm anyone (typically to protect yourself or another from
punishment).
A lie that deceives nobody is not a lie (i.e. a fish story among fishermen,
or a humorous anecdote), but a successful April Fool's story is
intended to deceive: it is a jocose lie.
