I thought it might be interesting to see the actual
verbal endings, in order to compare the preverbal
endings with them.
Preverb Verb
sing. 1 -m -m, -u/-o
2 -s, -d/-t -s
3m/f -a(n) -s
3n -d -s
pl. 1 -n(n) -mus, -on
2 -w -z, -h
3 -a, -nd -ont, -enz, -end
In the verbal endings, the leftmost are all current
now in the present tense. Those on the right are often
older / obsolete forms or else are alternate forms
used in the imperfect.
-u/-o is an archaic alternate 1s: -m followed roots
ending in liquids and ess, -u/-o followed stops. -on,
-h, and -enz are all imperfect endings; -end is an old
present alternative.
At least you can see the relationship between the two
sets of endings.
Padraic.
