I can tell, and
the /3/ vs /@/ in |ambulance| is hard to grok, but my gut tells me
it's right. The final
/@/ in |ambulance| might be raised a bit. Then again, among my inner
circle, it is often
pronounced /,ekn@'lVbm@/ for reasons that may or may not be apparent
(the same reasons
cause the pronunciation /'esi\,lop_}/ for law enforcement vehicles,
btw).

Born in urban north Buckinghamshire (Milton Keynes, which has its own
set of lectical
quirks), of middle-class, professional, white North London forbears.
Raised in
Buckinghamshire (rural and urban, north and central) for 20-some
years. The next 6+
years have been spent first in rural North Carolina (Johnston County)
and then in urban
North Carolina (Wake County).
