Two things seem odd to me there: the /a/ instead of /&/ in "lavatory"
and the lack of a /j/ in front of the u-vowel in "ambulance".

Heh. Likewise, except with the primary and secondary stress reversed.

The markings are not as common on such vehicles around here, so I
haven't heard that one.
Born and raised in Buckinghamshire and then transplanted to North
Carolina. That's quite a jolt. You in Raleigh proper or one of the
surrounding bits?
To reciprocate: I was born in Chicopee, Massachussetts, but moved to
the central part of Georgia at the age of two and stayed there through
high school. In the autumn of 1986 I started at Georgia Tech, and I
have lived in metro Atlanta ever since. Currently, I live in the
northeastern part of Cobb County, about 25 miles NNW of the heart of
Atlanta.
To extend into the TMI department: my mailing address says "Marietta",
but my house is not within the Marietta city limits; the city center
of Marietta is, in fact, almost twice as far away as that of Roswell.
The US Post Office is prone to weirdnesses in that regard - our
previous mailing address said "Norcross" even though we were much
closer to either Lilburn or Tucker - but in this case the choice
makes sense: I'm sure it would cause much bureaucratic confusion to
have a Cobb County residence with an address that appeared to be in
Fulton County. (Counties are the major local government unit around
here; city governments are comparatively small affairs).
