I assume in this case the gama here is to enphasise
that the word begins with a [j] and not a [i], as it
did/does in Katharevousa I believe.  If you take
another example, "eurovision", it is written as
&#947;&#953;&#959;&#965;&#961;&#959;&#946;&#953;&#963;&#953;&#959;&#957;.
