_Some_ folks call it [jIpsI"l{~4i] but what do they know. Also in your neck of the woods, Milan, perversely called ["majl@n]. Well, I'm in Saugatuck ["sQg@tVk], county Allegan ["{lIg@n], Michigan USA as above. Nearest "big" city, Grand Rapids-- which is only amusing when radio announcers slur it to Grand Rabbits. Then there's beautiful Kalamazoo ["k_h{l@m@"zu:]. Nearby Holland has interesting surrounding villages: Drenthe (never heard it pronounced! probably ["dr\EnT@] ), Overisel (ought to be Overijsel I think) ["ov@r\ajsl=] and The Graafschaap usually ["gr\AfskAp], though an amazing number of people around here get at least the -sch- right-- ["grAfsxAp]. Those names should look familiar to Irina. BTW there are 7 _Dryfhout_ in the Holland phone book. Any kin, do you suppose?
