I am definitely older than you. I'll be 28 in January. :)
I have used heavily modified versions of pre-prepared vocabulary lists,
some of which are available on the web, to which I assign the new words,
which I have (a) made up as I go along -- very time consuming, but best
for achieving a particular effect (b) randomly generated (which didn't
work as well as I had hoped) or (c) built systematically from a set
pre-determined possible syllables (time saver that lets you dump icky
sounding words along the way).
I use MS Access. I never used the computer for conlanging before,
really, but I am very happy with what I have done with Access.
I find it difficult to read for any length of time from the computer, so
I still prefer to do most of the work by hand on paper. This, of course,
makes more work for me, since I have to transcribe my notes to computer
to share with all you good people. (So far, better hardware hasn't
helped my problem with focusing on text on a screen. Changing the text
to yellow-on-black seems to help some, but printing everything I want to
read carefully has been my ideal solution.)
