It's "hache" in Spanish, too (or maybe it is "ache"... I can't spell Spanish
worth beans).

Apparently Latin "ach" or "hacca" (I can't read these notes).
As "H" became mainly silent in Latin it needed a more substantial name, I
suppose, than the other letters that could make do with their own sounds.
