That's the idea behind Phaleran, actually. Because IMHO you can't
create a realistic artlang without having some idea of its social context,
I decided I needed a whole setting that was reasonably large so as to
accomodate as much variety as I could ever want, while also being
finite so as to give it some boundaries so that any similarities are also
reasonably explainable. Moreover, the chronology behind it (planet
colonized by future Earth, which planets later successively lose contact
with each other, regain contact through imperial expansionism on earth's
part, and then lose contact again) gives plenty of time for random sound
changes to virtually obliterate any connection with current human
languages. I can, in other words, just make up stuff and make it
believeable.
