That's the idea behind Phaleran, actually. Because IMHO you can't create a realistic artlang without having some idea of its social context, I decided I needed a whole setting that was reasonably large so as to accomodate as much variety as I could ever want, while also being finite so as to give it some boundaries so that any similarities are also reasonably explainable. Moreover, the chronology behind it (planet colonized by future Earth, which planets later successively lose contact with each other, regain contact through imperial expansionism on earth's part, and then lose contact again) gives plenty of time for random sound changes to virtually obliterate any connection with current human languages. I can, in other words, just make up stuff and make it believeable. =================================== Thomas Wier | AIM: trwier "Aspidi men Saiôn tis agalletai, hên para thamnôi entos amômêton kallipon ouk ethelôn; autos d' exephugon thanatou telos: aspis ekeinê erretô; exautês ktêsomai ou kakiô" - Arkhilokhos
