I think that the idea originally came up from the Conlang Evolution
Experiment that I ran on the Talideon wiki
http://www.talideon.com/concultures/wiki/?doc=ConlangEvolutionExperiment.
The initial language (kingifa) was entirely isolating, and I later wanted
to create a noun system with cases. I did that by agglutinating common
phrases into single words
http://www.talideon.com/concultures/wiki/?doc=kimva.
That got me thinking about the semantic overlap between cases and verbs.
I'd considered clause chaining as an alternative to cases for isolating
languages previously.
I think that the alien aspect of iljena comes from stipulating that neither
nouns or verbs can ever stand alone - hence the quasi-semitic morphology.
