I know you're being humorously pedantic, but I can be pedantic too. :-)
mil·len·ni·um () n., pl. mil·len·ni·ums or mil·len·ni·a (-lµn"¶-.). 1. A
span of one thousand years. 2. A thousand-year period of holiness mentioned
in Revelation 20, during which Jesus and his faithful followers are to rule
on earth. 3. A hoped-for period of joy, serenity, prosperity, and justice.
4. A thousandth anniversary. [New Latin : Latin mºlle, thousand; see gheslo-
below + Latin annus, year; see at- below.] --mil·len"ni·al (-.l)
adj. --mil·len"ni·al·ism n. --mil·len"ni·al·ist n. --mil·len"ni·al·ly adv.
[American Heritage English Dictionary]
So you can celebrate a new millennium(sense1) every second, if you like.
And since the calendar we use wasn't even in effect for the first 400 or so
years it stakes out as its own, and since scholars now believe Christ was
born 4 BC, it seems like you're missing the fun to be like Arthur C. Clark
and define the millennium the way you do. So please join me in celebrating
the end of the millennium that spanned from 1000 to 1999!
One thing I know we can agree on :-) -- Happy New Year!
