Re: Whether we're thin and rich

rich European pastime for people with a lot of time on their hands.

I'm wondering whether you mean conlanging on the listserv or
"conlanging"
in general. Tolkien ran into a fellow language maker in the army...
what do you want to bet that there are far more of us out there
than just log-in to the listserv? We SEEM to be European and rich
(if you call owning a computer rich), and to have time on our hands,
but I say that anybody with a passion will make time for it if he
can. I didn't have a computer for years and yet I toiled away at
Teonaht, keeping it secret from all but a few, thinking I was unique
in doing this. A great many of us had already started doing this
before we met each other on the list. Tom's assertions are deducted
by what he's met on the list. What if the list only scratches the
surface of world conlangers?
