What then would be the suggestion of the archinationalists to call the
country?
Related to "Ukraina" is "krajina". which was taken as the name for the
Serbian breakaway state from Croatia during the Yugoslav Wars (1992-1995,
Republic of Srpska Krajina); this means the same thing. So, the Serbs
take such a name upon their own country their, based on the fact that it
is separated from Serbia proper; thus it is a "distant region". So perhaps
if we look at it this way, there might be something to the suggestion that
"ukraina" is a Russian invention, especially if we consider it together
with historical Russian reference to Ukraine as "Lesser Russia"?
NB: I'm just theorising here - no offence intended to anyone, Russians or
Ukrainians!
