The division is into Inuit, Metis(with an acute accent on the e), First Nations, and Non-Status. The Metis are descended from a mix of various indigenous nations and various immigrant groups. The Assembly of First Nations represents the various recognized bands/tribes. Non-Status refers to those who are of Native Canadian ancestry but no membership in a recognized band/tribe. --Wayne Chevrier
