I forgot to read the posting completely before answering...

He wants to shoot it through his beloved's head (`ihr' = dative of
`sie' (she), meant benefactive (or malefactive...) here).  (I suppose
instead of using possessive `durch ihren Kopf', dative is often used
in German to specify the recipient).  If the inclination had been
suicide, it would, therefore, have been `...h
