The bulk of their characters are sound-changes; a few are morphological
markers. Neither should be much affected by translationese. One of the
reasons why syntax isn't used much in IE work (and therefore we know
very little about the syntax of PIE) is that such a great deal of
older written documents is indeed translationese; the Gothic Bible is
essentially Greek relexed as Gothic. :-)
