But "apposition" already has a meaning, it's the construction which consists in putting a noun next to another (usually separated by a comma) to describe it more precisely (like "my uncle, the lawyer"). Since we cannot use the same word to describe two different things, and that "apposition" got this meaning already a long time ago and it would be a little futile to try and change the habits of everyone, we have to coin another word, and thus the assimilation doesn't need to take place since we're making a new word. Thus it is "adposition" and not "apposition". And I've seen "adlative" instead of "allative" quite often. I even wonder if they don't refer to different things...
