Probably because of the /t/ in /kRis*t*Of/. Assimilation at a distance,
so that the tongue is in the front the whole time. The same reason I,
as a child, turned to "t" of "kitty" (/kIri/, where /r/ is a tap, in my
pronunciation) to a /k/ as /kiki/.
