Well, as for vowels the ol' /i a u/ has something going for it!
:-) Proto-Sohlob (aka Kidjeb) actually has that system. Sohlob itself has
/i 1 u/ {i e u}
/e a o/ {ae a o}
which I find beautiful, especially as it is in Sohlob combined with vowel
height harmony (i.e. all vowels of a word are either all high or all low).
As for consonants I don't know.
