Re: McGuffey Project Update: 172 Sentences

I completed very few sentences today. As I was
translating, some dozen or so verbs decided to stage a
mutiny! They refused to obey my neatly prescribed
rules of conjugation! I struggled with them for a
while, but finally allowed them to have their own way.
When the dust finally settled and I surveyed the
damage I found that Tazhu now has three verb classes
that conjugate in slightly different ways.

Naturally, I had to go back and "fix" all the earlier
sentences to reflect the new discovery, and to repair
the lexicon to specify class for each verb.

Also about 4 or 5 words fell into disuse as more
modern words took their place, and in spite of all my
best intentions, a few irregularities have cropped up
in the declension of pronouns. Oh well. I suppose
trying to "control" a language is like trying to nail
Jello to a tree.

I have also added a page with McGuffey's in pure
Tazhu, with no English at all on the page. It's good
source material on which to practice my reading
skills.

I hope to have the new repaired lexicon and grammar
summaries and the new translations posted on my page
within a few hours.
