To bring this back to conlanging, I use _v_ for /V/
in my Piata. Although I didn't pick it up from Tsalagi,
but from Choctaw. Example:
_Fa-ayilihvv he chisichv_ 'He cowardly killed himself'
fa -ayilihvv he chisi-chv
3AGT-kill_oneself:PAST with snake-ness
'He cowardly killed himself.'
_Ayilihvv_ derives from _ay(v)-_, which is a reflexive
prefix; _ili_ which means 'die' (shamelessly stolen
from Chickasaw :); _-hv_ which is a causative suffix;
and then a lengthening of the final vowel which marks
past tense (or possibly perfective aspect, I haven't
decided yet).
So all in all you literally get "Cause oneself to die".
