Read the beginning of the first chapter of Exodus - it uses the term _misim_ = 'labor tax', i.e. corvee. Hmm... let's compare the corvee system described in Exodus to jury duty... forced labor, killing of children, torture... sure sounds like slavery to me. Jury duty: participation in the government of your country, no killing, no torture... not slavery. They even pay you! Oh, and Moses did have an ark - his mother sets him adrift in an ark in the Nile in order to save him from death, and he gets found by the pharoah's daughter.
