In one of my (long :)) ) short stories, an alien comes to Earth from
a "parallel universe" (more exactly another facet of our crystal universe. It's
quite complex, but self-consistent :)) ). In that facet, the laws of the
universe are so different that planets appear naturally as tores (i.e. rings).
