Incorrect. The population growth is slowing. The numerical increase
hit its peak in the 80's, and the percentage increase hit its peak in
the 60's. In fact, if current trends continue, most of the
industrialized nations will see their populations declining. In *50*
years, according to the UN's middle projection, the population will be
9,322,251,000.
Ideas of continous growth are outdated. Every nation on Earth has a
declining birth rate, and in every case where the rate has reached 2, it
has continued to decline. It's clear that the population will peak at
some point and then decline. In fact, the UN's mid- and low-range
projections don't show *any* more doubling, the mid-range's peak is
somewhere around 11 billion, IIRC, and the low projection peaks at under
8 billion.
