- I thought that it's almaghrab, with short /a/s.. But anyway, the Hebrew cognate of this root, /3RB/, has the basic meaning of "mixing". The west/evening is "mixing" because the sun sets, and the colors of the sky mix around, and as it gets darker forms become less and less distinct. The root of "morning", /BQR/, by the way, means "discernment/examination" -Stephen (Steg) "barukh yotzereikh, barukh `oseikh, barukh qoneikh, barukh bor'eikh... hu yevareikh et yisrael meqaddesheikh!"
