Not only must they recognize a sound, they must be able to show and help
people who can't produce a sound to produce it, or else it wouldn't be
speech *therapy*. Where's Dan Sulani when we need him :) Anyway, my
phonetics prof. said that usually, most of his students went on to
become speech therapists, not phoneticists.
