Nor for me. For me it's closer to /@/ than to anything else; it's the
same sound as the middle vowel in "habitat". But when I lived near
NYC, many friends from the Bronx pronounced it much closer to /V/, as
they did the vowel in "her". I was never quite able to duplicate it.
