Hi!

To get an impression of how the language feels, here are some
sentences to show how 'hví' < lat. 'qui' is used in Þrjótran.

 Hví katt?                [kvi: kaht]              Who sings?
<Qui(s) cantat?

 Eykkli mí kattað.        ['EI)hkKI mi: 'kahtaD]   My uncles sing.
<Avunculi mei cantant.

 Aukkull kyr katt?        ['9Y)hkYtK kI:r kaht]    Whose uncle sings?
 Aukkull myr katt.        ['9Y)hkYtK mI:r kaht]    My uncle sings.

 Hví er bjöll?            [kvi: e:r pj2tK]         Who is beautiful?
 Mer er bjall.            [me:r e:r pjatK]         Mary is beautiful.

 Hvoð er bjöll?           [kvo:D e:r pj2tK]        What is beautiful?
 Domisi sutt belli.       ['do:mIsI sYht bEtKI]    The houses are beautiful.

 Hvoð pjásar tú?          [kvo:D pjaU):sar tu:]    What do you think?

 Hvíg kattar tú?          [hvi:x kahtar tu:]       With whom do you sing?
 Kú aukkul mjú katta já.  [ku: 9Y)hkYl mju:        I sing with my uncle.
                           kahta jau]

 Hví aukkull katt?        [hvi: 9Y)hkYtK kaht]     What uncle sings?
 Hvæll aukkull katt?      [hvaI)tK 9Y)hkYtK kaht]  What kind of uncle sings?
 Hvíg aukkul kattar tú?   [hvi:x 9Y)hkYtK          With what uncle do you sing?

 Já sepja hví katt.                 I know who sings.
 Já sepja aukkull kyr katt.         I know whose uncle sings.
 Já sepja hví er bjöll.             I know who is beautiful.
 Já sepja hvoð er bjöll.            I know what is beautiful.
 Já sepja hvoð pjásar tú.           I know what do you think.
 Já sepja hvíg kattar tú.           I know with whom you sing.

 Já sepja hví aukkull katt.         I know what uncle sings.
 Já sepja hvæll aukkull katt.       I think what kind of uncle sings.
