The other point of view, of course, is found in Johann Peter Hebel's
classic story "Kannitverstan".
I took a boat ride in the Netherlands once, and noticed that the scenery
was being described in Dutch, English, French, and German in that order:
by the time the German version was being spoken, the boat had invariably
moved on past whatever was being described. So all the Germans had to
face aft....
