Reminds me of a story I once heard (perhaps it only works in german, I am a
german native speaker myself):

A dutchman visits his old father and, to his surprise, finds out that he has
started to learn english. When he asks him why, the father says: "Well, son,
I will not live forever here and when I go to heaven, I want to be able to
speak english, the language of the angels (in german:"Engel")."
The son answers: "Dad, but how can you know for sure where you will go? What
if you end up in that other place?"
The father smiles:"Well, we dutch all know a little german, don't we?"
