Forewith is a "retooled" and heavily paraphrased version of "The North
Wind and the Desert Sun" as told by a special forces soldier (American):
Once upon-a-time the North Wind and the Desert Sun had an argument as to
which was the stronger. They decided to test this out on a Greenie [Green
Beret] - who just happen to be on a survival course in the South West (I
can't tell you ex-act-ly where, you know...),.
The North Wind blew-'n'-blew, but the Greenie kept on-goin' like it was
nuthin' - even tho' the North Wind was tryin' to _freeeeze dry_ that
Greenie... who just marched double-time... still grinnin'. Then the North
Wind tried cold rain and hail and finally snow... The Greenie just dug-in and
weathered the blizzard - sleepin' like a babie.
Then it was the Desert Sun's turn. The Sun tried to sunburn the Greenie.
But the Greenie was not a damn wimp. Then the Sun es-ca-late-ed it all the
way up to char-broiled bar-BE-cued level. The Sun tried to turn our Greenie
into a crispy critter.
Still the Greenie knew what to do to survive... and even had FUN at it.
The Greenie just grinned and asked the Elements, "Ya muthaf*****s done???
huh? I was just beginning to have f****in' FUN!!!! Hey!, I _gotta_ do a
jungle sometime, dudes."
The North Wind and Desert Sun both gave-up.
