I get "Uri", one of the three original cantons of Switzerland. =P

My guess would be so as not to confound it with the unit 1 V = 1 Volt.
A string like U = 2 V is much clearer than V = 2 V... Furthermore,
U is close enough to V to give mnemonic assistance, while being
relatively rarely used for any other physical values.
