French: Il ouvrit la porte et quitta la piece (e grave). Would sound heavy to repeat "il". Even lighter: il ouvrit la porte et sortit. Some purists would say that you don't "open" a door, you "push" it, so: il poussa la porte et sortit. Another usual expression is "prendre la porte" ("take" the door).
