Even lighter: il ouvrit la porte et sortit.

Some purists would say that you don't "open" a door,
you "push" it, so: il poussa la porte et sortit.

Another usual expression is "prendre la porte" ("take"
the door). Thus the famous college joke, when the
teacher tells you "Prenez la porte et sortez", so you
dismount the door and go away with it (carrying it on
your back, presumably).
