My brother is left-handed, and writes backwards with his left hand quite
often. He can write and read that way pretty much as fast as he can
forwards, i think, at least the writing part. Although when he got his
first checking account the bank said he can't sign his checks backwards.
:-)
The reason he does this is the same reason why we think that the Semitic
alphabets were invented by lefties - you don't smudge the ink with your
hand that way!
