Warwick (Rhode Island) is in fact pronounced /war-wik/.
The shibboleths to distinguish the locals from the invaders around here
(Massachusetts) are:
- Worcester /woo-ster/
- Peabody /pee-b@-dee/
- Haverhill /hav-@r-l/
Being a Buckeye, I mispronounced all of these when I first moved here. (A
Buckeye is a native of Ohio.)
Most other Mass. place names are pronounced as they are spelt.
