Although french letters are not liked much, I believe that
the reason for their name is not that but rather that in
matters of lubricity the English believe that it is the
French that have all the fun and a very monopoly. Compare
mere kissing to French kissing; consider the denotation
of the English singular mass common noun _french_ (as
paradigmatically contrasted with _greek_).
