Well, the latter would be expected from the conhistory of the language, but as far as I understood it Sindarin follows the same rule as Quenya, and indeed _A Elbereth Gilthoniel_ scans perfectly with "Latin" stress, but not with the stress pattern that would result if the stress was where it would have been expected from the conhistory of the language. /a 'elbereT gil'To:niel/? Yes. /a el'bereT giltho:ni'el/? No way. So I think we must assume that Sindarin, too, follows the Latin stress rules (possible under the influence of Quenya). Jörg.
