Here's what I believe you should do to get to the unicode chars in OSX:
(I cant check this right now cuz im running 9.1 at the moment and really
dont want to reboot.)
In "system preferences", look for the "keyboard" settings panel. Look
through the list of keyboard layouts and check all of the ones that mention
"Unicode" in their name. You should now have a little keyboard layout menu
in the menu bar. In Cocoa based app, you can choose the unicode layout. Use
Keycaps to find how to write the character you want.
Something like that anyway...
