        Not to be a troll, but switching from OE6 to another mail
program could be a good idea in your case, because:

        - If you don't need all the features of OE6, a simpler program
          would work faster and do the same service
        - Most email virus are targeted to OE
        - If the new program fails too, you know that it may be a
          hardware problem (or at least an XP problem, not specific to
          OE)

        Anyway, I'm afraid that's the only advice I can give. I can't
even say what mail program would be good, because Windows is quite an
alien world to me O:-)
