TECH (aargh) More new computer woes

Has anyone else experienced this problem with MS-XP/OE6-- I suppose not, and
am beginning to think my new computer may be a...gasp...lemon.
On more or less random occasions, when replying to an email, when I hit
ENTER, an error msg pops up which causes OE to close, and my reply is lost.
The error msg does have a "Notify MS" box, which I've done on occasions, but
of course receive no reply. There is also a box "explaining" the error, but
that of course is gibberish to me.
This happens especially when replying to Chis Wright's weekly vocab. msgs.--
is it possible there's something in his formatting that triggers the
error??? I've just tried twice to reply to Vocab. #6-- once replying
directly, once by taking Conlang from the address book, then c&p Chris's
text--and it happened each time (in a different place in the msg.).
Needless to say, it's very vexing to get to sentence 8 or 9 in these long
and complicated replies, then have the whole thing vanish.
If I make a "new msg." and retype Crhis's text myself, I think it works OK--
that's what I'll try next, but AFAIC that should be unnecessary, and it's
cumbersome.
It has also happened when replying to others' emails, but with far less
frequency.
I might mention that in the 2plus weeks I've had this new machine, my
egl.net account has gotten screwed up in random ways (password rejected,
msgs. can't be sent, slow or incomplete(timed-out) downloads of email,
usually very slow access to the web-- yes, I'm on dial-up). Egl.net finally
did admit yesterday that there was a "problem" with my account, and they
would work on it, but......I just keep thinking, none of this used to happen
with the old Gateway/Win98 setup. If I lived in a high-rise, this new box
woulda been out the window long ago.
Dear Abbies, any suggestions?
Thanks, Roger
