The only published word related to intelligence is
"akut", which was the name of a very intelligent ape.
The name translates as "light-hole" (a = light, kut =
hole) and here is the derivation I give for this
translation:
smart, wise, light-hole, a break-in-the-trees or a
clearing in the jungle. Intelligence or wisdom is
metaphorically related to the feeling a mangani gets
in a clearing; being able to see out of the darkness
is a metaphor for intelligence.
But I was stretching it here (mangani don't use many
metaphors). I don't think edgar rice burroughs put
much thought into this word (he was spotty, sometimes
the words make a lot of sense, other times I think he
was just putting sounds together).
