Nevertheless, if your audience (at least, initially) is comprised of the
more linguistically-astute, as conlangers tend to be, then using Яя for a
rhotic is not necessarily a bad idea. For me, it jumps right out of the
page as a vowel.
(I, too, pronounce "Toys `Я' Us" with a /ja/ in the middle. I've never had
call to try to pronounce NIИ aloud, fortunately. :))
