I'm planning on implementing it in a descendant of Uatakassi. U is
verb-initial, but there is a focus particle used to front constituents.
My idea is that the fronting occurred more often in that lang,
eventually becoming obligatory (perhaps because of substrate influence),
eventually to the point of either dropping the particle completely or
using it less often and solely for emphasis.
BTW, didn't French go thru a V2 stage at one point?
