Lol, don't let Irina hear that! I don't think it is generational, or even
regional. I think it is a matter of opinion. It did het the meaning, of
course, because I knew what we were talking about, but if I would encounter
such a phrase in everyday life, I would blink twice before continuing. Off
course, if you expand the example to "Het boek geeft Anna niet gelezen, maar
de krant wel", the sentence kind of explains itself. But I would never say
that. Normallt, one would say: "Anne heeft het boek niet gelezen, maar de
krant wel" while putting addtional stress on "het boek" and "de krant".
This would convey the same meaning, but sounds less contrived to me.
