[...] This needs not be so. If you look at natlangs, many, many words have extremely interesting etymologies (actual or folk alike). Working out the tiny details of how each word came to be, along with other related words and the anecdotes behind them, can be very interesting indeed. Of course, the caveat is that this level of detail will require several lifetimes to get the conlang anywhere near the scale of general utility, so perhaps this is just another side of the same problem. :-) T -- The only difference between male factor and malefactor is just a little emptiness inside.
