Specifically, within the Roman Catholic Church there are groups which,
while they acknowledge the authority of the Roman pontiff, derive their
ritual structure from non-Roman roots.
These include the Byzantine Rite, the Syrian Rite, the Armenian Rite,
the Coptic Rite, and the Chaldean Rite.
They are to be distinguished from the Orthodox and other churches which
have similar ritual structures but do NOT acknowledge the authority
of Rome.
