Huh.  The 0x8b made it all the way through fine; the 0x8a, however,
was completely lost.  Maybe those weren't yerus in Isaac's message?
But if the missing bytes were 0x8a's, then the letters I thought
were yeru's were really hard signs (tvjordij znak), and that makes no sense.
How can k + hard sign be a complete word?
Perhaps the particular bytes munged by the list server are somewhat
context-sensitive?  Hm.
