Funny suggestion, but I don't find an abundance of >uvular fricatives to be particularly Scandinavian. I'd go for >Danish/Bokmaal orthography + Swedish pronunciation + Nynorsk vocab.
For political reasons I would go for mediated Norsk/Svensk orthography, mediated vocabulary and Danish pronunciation.
> >Insularisk: Icelandic orthography + Faeroese pronounciation + Norse > >vocabulary > >Norse vocab? What's that? :) I'd say Icelandic orthography + mediated >Icel./Far. pronunciation + "Norse vocab" (mediated?)
I'ld go for pure Old Norse orthography and vocab (whatever "pure Old Norse vocab" would be! :-) and mediated Icel/Far/ON pronunciation: (SAMPA transcription except: ' = SAMPA % % = SAMPA 2 & = SAMPA { 6 = SAMPA Q ^ = SAMPA 6 **and** = SAMPA V 9_@ = SAMPA & (_@ = SAMPA _") (usu. I use 9 for all of SAMPA 9 & 3\ !) W = SAMPA } (SAMPA W = hw) (usu. I use yw for SAMPA }) ) í i i e é je e ea æ ai a a á oa o uO ó ou u Y ú u ý ui y Yi -- Icel. _hugi_ /hYije/ ø % œ oy ö O ei ei ey öy au au (This is more or less the pronunciation of Old Norse which they teach in school in Lucus' Norway! ;-)
> >Sounds cool! > >It does. I'd like to engineer some of it, especially the "insularisk" >(which I'd rather call "eyjamaal".
Rather someone should engineer a proper orthography for Far -- one without ð and other artificial distinctions as a steppingästone to be able to learn "Eyjamál"! Far _maður_ sounds totally different from Icl _maður_, and should be spelled _mævur_, just as the Icl word should be _madur_. /BP 8^)> -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:bpX@netg.se mailto:melrochX@mail.com (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Truth, Sir, is a cow which will give [skeptics] no more milk, and so they are gone to milk the bull." -- Sam.
